That God is our God. ___________________ [Daily Meditation] - Today's meditation is to review the Word from the past week. - This week's meditation text: 1 Samuel 16:17-18:29  ]]> Sat, 25 Jul 2026 06:47:03 +0000 [한 절 묵상] 사무엘상 18:10 (개역개정) 그 이튿날 하나님께서 부리시는 악령이 사울에게 힘 있게 내리매 그가 집 안에서 정신없이 떠들어대므로 다윗이 평일과 같이 손으로 수금을 타는데 사울의 손에 창이 있는지라 [묵상]  18장은 왕 사울이 다윗을 제거하려는 음모로 가득합니다. 그는 맏딸 메랍을 주겠다던 약속을 어겨 다윗에게 모욕을 주고, 심지어 작은 딸 미갈을 미끼로 그를 죽음의 함정으로 몰아넣지요. 이 모든 죄악의 시작은 '두려움'이었습니다. 여호와께서 자신이 아닌 다윗과 함께 하심이 죽도록 무서웠던 것입니다. 오늘 본문의 첫 구절은 우리를 당혹스럽게 합니다. "하나님께서 부리시는 악령이 사울에게 힘 있게 내리매 ..." 우리는 이 구절을 어떻게 해석해야 할까요? 선하신 하나님이 ‘악의 조성자’일까요? 그럴리가 없습니다. 오히려 세상의 모든 것, 심지어 악한 영조차도 하나님의 절대적인 통치 아래 있음을 보여주는 선언입니다. 그러니까 이 구절은 사울의 죄에 대한 책임을 면제해 주지 않는다. 악령이 임하자 사울이 로봇처럼 조종당한 것이 아니라, 질투와 교만으로 가득 찬 그의 악한 마음이, 악한 영이 마음껏 일할 수 있게 한 것이지요. 그리고 하나님은 그의 불순종에 대한 심판으로, 이 일을 허락하셨습니다. 사울을 죄악된 상태에 내버려 두신 것이지요. 이와 비슷한 장면이 신약에도 나옵니다. 예수님은 베드로에게 이렇게 말씀하셨지요. “시몬아, 시몬아, 보라 사탄이 너희를 밀 까부르듯 하려고 요구하였으나 그러나 내가 너를 위하여 네 믿음이 떨어지지 않기를 기도하였노니 너는 돌이킨 후에 네 형제를 굳게 하라” (눅 22:31-32) 사울과 베드로의 결정적인 차이가 여기에 있습니다. 바로 예수 그리스도의 중보기도입니다. 하나님은 사울을 그의 죄 가운데 내버려두셨지만, 베드로를 위해서는 그의 믿음을 지켜 주셨습니다. 그렇게 믿음의 자리에 세우셨지요. 그러니 우리의 믿음의 원인은 우리 자신이 아닙니다. ‘믿음의 주’이신 그리스도 예수이시지요. [기도]  주님, 제 믿음은 주님께 있습니다. 마치 암탉이 병아리를 품듯이 악한 영으로부터 지켜주시는 주님께 있지요. 그래서 오늘도 주님의 그 영원한 중보에 힘입어 믿음의 걸음을 내딛습니다. 아멘. _________________ (하루묵상) - 동네세메줄성경(제3권) 76-80쪽 - 삼상 18:10-29  ]]> Fri, 24 Jul 2026 07:00:04 +0000 [One-Verse Meditation] 1 Samuel 18:10 (NIV) The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully on Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the lyre, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand. [Meditation] Chapter 18 is filled with King Saul's schemes to eliminate David. He dishonors David by breaking his promise to give him his eldest daughter, Merab, and even uses his younger daughter, Michal, as bait to lure him into a deadly trap. The beginning of all this sin was 'fear.' He was deathly afraid that the LORD was with David, not with him. The first verse of today's text is perplexing. "An evil spirit from God came forcefully on Saul…" How should we interpret this verse? Is our good God the 'author of evil'? Of course not. Rather, this is a declaration showing that all things in the world, even evil spirits, are under the absolute reign of God. So, this verse does not exempt Saul from responsibility for his sin. It wasn't that Saul was controlled like a robot when the evil spirit came; rather, his own wicked heart, filled with jealousy and pride, allowed the evil spirit to work freely. And God, as a judgment for his disobedience, permitted this to happen. He left Saul in his sinful state. A similar scene appears in the New Testament. Jesus said this to Peter: “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32) The decisive difference between Saul and Peter lies here: the intercessory prayer of Jesus Christ. God left Saul in his sin, but for Peter, He preserved his faith. He set him in a place of faith. Therefore, the source of our faith is not ourselves; it is Christ Jesus, the 'author of faith.' [Prayer] Lord, my faith is in You. It is in You, who protect me from the evil one as a hen gathers her chicks. And so today, empowered by Your eternal intercession, I take a step of faith. The boy David had brought down the giant Goliath, and Israel won a great victory. Saul's son Jonathan came to love David as his own soul, and King Saul himself trusted David, making him a commander in the army. Everything seemed to be going well. But at the peak of that glory, a crack begins to form. On the way back, celebrating the victory, the women sing: "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands." With this single phrase, Saul's heart is broken. He cannot contain his anger and, from that day on, he begins to watch David with jealousy. This is our own frail reality. David, who was so admired just a moment ago, becomes a rival to be eliminated the instant he receives higher praise than "me." This heart is within us. We can't stand it when someone dismisses us, and we must retaliate when someone covets our position. This is who we are, needing to prove our own rightness to be satisfied. Today's word is a mirror that shows us our own true selves in the jealous Saul. It shows us our weak selves, striving to prove our own worth, our hearts breaking at the sounds of "thousands" and "ten thousands." But God's zeal does not leave us in that place. He makes us turn our eyes and hold onto the Lord, the true treasure the world cannot give. That is the saint's true victory that surpasses "thousands" and "ten thousands." [Prayer] Lord, it is true. I am weak and lacking. But I believe that even all this weakness cannot stop Your love for me. This is grace. Today, too, let it be a blessed day of enjoying the life You have given me, and of worshiping You alone. Seeing the boy, Goliath was filled with contempt. "Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?" he sneered, cursing him. To Goliath's cry, "Come here to me," David stands his ground and proclaims: "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied!" And he adds, "for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands." What was the reason David could be so confident before the giant he had to crane his neck to see? It was because his daily life was 'God's salvation' itself. He remembered with his whole body the touch of God's hand that had delivered him from the paws of the lion and the bear. This is the faith of a saint. This faith does not stop at mere knowledge; it is the natural response of one who has experienced God. To borrow a phrase from Marva Dawn: "My ability to have faith or to live faithfully doesn't come from my own strength. It's only possible because God Himself is faithful." That is why the Lord allows us to experience His salvation in our lives every day—so that we might live by that faith. [Prayer] Lord, I look forward to You today, because I know I will experience Your salvation. Because today is the day You will set me in a place of faith, I begin this morning with joy and thanksgiving. Amen. _____________________ [Daily Meditation] 1 Samuel 17:31-49  ]]> Wed, 22 Jul 2026 06:22:01 +0000 [한 절 묵상] 사무엘상 17:26 (개역개정) 다윗이 곁에 서 있는 사람들에게 말하여 이르되 이 블레셋 사람을 죽여 이스라엘의 치욕을 제거하는 사람에게는 어떠한 대우를 하겠느냐 이 할례 받지 않은 블레셋 사람이 누구이기에 살아 계시는 하나님의 군대를 모욕하겠느냐 [묵상]  40일 동안, 아침과 저녁으로 골리앗은 이스라엘을 공포의 도가니로 몰아넣습니다. 반복되는 조롱 속에서 이스라엘 군대의 사기는 완전히 꺾였습니다. 그들은 "우리는 결코 이길 수 없다"는 깊은 패배주의에 빠졌지요. 모두가 거인의 외모에 압도되어 두려워할 때, 전혀 다른 관점을 가진 한 소년이 등장합니다. 그는 거인을 향해 이렇게 외칩니다. "이 할례 받지 않은 블레셋 사람이 누구이기에 살아 계시는 하나님의 군대를 모욕하겠느냐?" 이것은 상황을 완전히 뒤집는 믿음의 선언입니다. 다윗에게 이 싸움의 본질은 '거인 골리앗'이 아니라, '하나님의 이름을 모욕하는 언약 밖의 존재'였습니다. 눈에 보이는 현실에 휘둘리지 않고, 보이지 않는 하나님께 시선을 고정한 당당한 믿음의 걸음이었지요. 다윗은 오실 메시아의 모형인 동시에, 오늘을 살아가는 교회의 모형입니다. 세상이라는 거인 앞에서 두려워하는 것이 아니라, ‘살아 계신 하나님’의 이름으로 세상을 바라보는 공동체. 그것이 교회입니다. 그럴 때 교회는 세상에 휘둘리지 않고 당당한 믿음의 걸음을 걷습니다. ‘이 세상이 도대체 무엇이기에 감히 하나님의 백성을 위협하는가?’ 선포하며 말입니다. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” [Meditation] For 40 days, morning and evening, Goliath plunged Israel into a crucible of fear. Amid repeated taunts, the morale of the Israelite army was completely broken. They had sunk into a deep defeatism, believing, "We can never win." When everyone was overwhelmed by the giant's appearance and paralyzed by fear, a boy with a completely different perspective appears. He cries out toward the giant: "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?" This is a declaration of faith that completely turns the situation on its head. For David, the essence of this battle was not the "giant Goliath," but an "entity outside the covenant who was insulting God's name." It was a confident step of faith, not swayed by visible reality but with his gaze fixed on the unseen God. David is a model of the coming Messiah and, at the same time, a model for the church living today. A community that looks at the world in the name of the "living God" instead of cowering before the giant called "the world"—that is the church. When it does so, the church walks a confident path of faith, not swayed by the world, proclaiming, "What is this world that it should dare to threaten the people of God?" [Prayer] Lord, today again, You make me see the worldly values that have taken root within me. You open my eyes, which saw those values as everything, with Your word, "Ephphatha"—this is grace. Knowing my weakness, that I quickly see the world's values as greater if I do not hear Your word daily, please set me apart today by Your word. Amen. ___________________ [Daily Meditation] 1 Samuel 17:12-30  ]]> Tue, 21 Jul 2026 06:36:47 +0000 [One-Verse Meditation] 1 Samuel 17:11 (NIV) On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified. [Meditation] Between the two camps of the Philistines and Israel, the giant champion Goliath steps forward. He proposes a one-on-one duel to prevent wasting troops. His height was over 290 cm (9'6"), and the weight of his armor alone was 57 kg (125 lbs), so his confidence must have seemed to pierce the sky. At his shout, taunting the armies of Israel, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified. Here we see an Israel still captivated by "what is visible." They had made Saul their king based on the standard of what was "good in their own eyes," because of his exceptional height and outstanding appearance. But their king, Saul, was helpless before Goliath, a man of overwhelming appearance. He could not step forward for fear of death. This scene mirrors our own inner selves. We too look at the world through the lens of what is "good in our eyes." We become infatuated with it and swayed by it. Then, standing before the Word, we see ourselves for who we are. That is a place of grace. Because we have confronted our own state, we can finally lay down our own thoughts and plans. That place of self-denial is the very place where we worship God. Worship is impossible without our own brokenness. Worship without self-denial is merely a form of self-satisfaction. That is not faith. True faith is when the "unseen God" takes His place in the heart that desires "what is seen." A walk of faith is to step forward, seeing Him. Of course, we will soon glance around again. But each time, the "zeal of God," which turns us back to Him, takes hold of us. [Prayer] Lord, thank you for holding onto me when my heart is set on worldly things, and for filling me with Yourself. May my life today also be a time of fully enjoying that life. Amen. ___________________ [Daily Meditation] 1 Samuel 16:17-17:11  ]]> Mon, 20 Jul 2026 06:42:18 +0000 [한 절 묵상] 사무엘상 17:11 (개역개정) 사울과 온 이스라엘이 블레셋 사람의 이 말을 듣고 놀라 크게 두려워하니라 [묵상]  블레셋과 이스라엘, 두 진영이 마주 선 가운데 거인 장수 골리앗이 앞으로 나섭니다. 그는 전력 낭비를 막자며 일대일 대결을 제안하지요. 그의 키는 290cm가 넘고, 입은 갑옷의 무게만도 57kg에 달했으니, 그 자신감은 하늘을 찌를 듯했겠지요. 이스라엘 군대를 모욕하는 그의 외침에, 사울과 온 이스라엘은 놀라 크게 두려워합니다. 여기서 우리는 여전히 '눈에 보이는 것'에 사로잡힌 이스라엘을 봅니다. 그들은 '자기 보기에 좋은 대로'라는 기준으로 사울을 왕으로 삼았습니다. 다른 사람들보다 월등히 큰 키와 출중한 외모 때문이었지요. 그러나 그들의 왕 사울은, 압도적인 외모를 가진 골리앗 앞에서는 속수무책이었습니다. 죽음이 두려워 나서지 못하지요. 이 장면은 우리의 내면을 비춥니다. 우리 역시 '눈에 보기에' 좋은 것으로 세상을 바라봅니다. 그것에 흠뻑 빠지기도 하고, 휘둘리기도 하지요. 그러다 말씀 앞에 서서 우리의 그런 모습을 보게 됩니다. 그 자리가 은혜의 자리입니다. 나의 어떠함을 직면했기에, 비로소 나의 생각과 계획을 내려놓을 수 있기 때문입니다. 그 자기 부인의 자리가 바로 하나님을 예배하는 자리입니다.. 예배는 나의 무너짐 없이는 불가능합니다. 자기 부인 없는 예배는 모양뿐인 자기 만족이지요. 그것은 신앙이 아닙니다. 참 신앙은 '눈에 보이는 것'을 바라는 마음의 자리에 '보이지 않는 하나님'이 자리하시는 것입니다. 그렇게 그분을 보고 나가는 걸음이 신앙입니다. 물론 우리는 또 주변을 기웃거리지요. 그러나 그때마다 우리를 다시 당신께로 돌이키시는 '하나님의 열심'이 우리를 붙듭니다. (진리가 아닌 것을 진리라고 하고, 진리인것을 아니라 하는 것이 거짓말이지요.) 이새의 집에 도착한 사무엘은 그의 아들들을 불러 세웁니다. 맨 먼저 그 앞에 선 장남 엘리압을 보고 사무엘은 흡족해 하며, 이렇게 말합니다. "여호와의 기름 부으실 자가 과연 주님 앞에 있도다.” 그러나 하나님은 사무엘을 꾸짖으시지요. 그가 엘리압의 용모와 키를 보았다고 하시면서요. 이건 ‘사무엘이 외모를 보았다고 하시는 말씀이 아닙니다. 그가 ‘자기 눈에 좋은대로’를 저질렀다는 말씀이지요. 그리고 이어지는 말씀이 "내가 보는 것은 사람과 같지 아니하니"입니다. ‘하나님이 보시기에’의 다른 표현이지요. 주님은 우리의 외모가 아닌 중심을 보십니다. 이 말씀은 단순히 우리의 겉모습이 아닌 마음을 보신다는 뜻 정도가 아닙니다. 그것은 우리의 성취가 아니라 믿음을 보신다는 말씀이지요. 주님은 물음은 ‘네가 무엇을 하였느냐?’가 아니라 ‘네가 누구를 보고 있느냐?’라는 것입니다. “나 여호와는 중심을 보느니라.” - 이 말씀이 은혜인 이유는, 여기에 하나님의 사랑이 있기 때문입니다. 우리를 반드시 그렇게 만드시겠다는 그분의 의지와 성실이 담긴 사랑이 말입니다. 그 사랑의 열매가 바로 저와 여러분, 우리입니다. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People a look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” [Meditation] God comforts Samuel, who is grieving over Saul, by telling him of a new king He will anoint. At the command to go to the house of Jesse in Bethlehem, Samuel expresses fear that Saul will kill him. Here we see the reality of the human condition. Even the great Samuel could be captivated by what is visible and rely on it. The Lord gives this frail Samuel wisdom, telling him to say he has come to make a sacrifice, not to anoint a king. We might ask, "But isn't that a lie?" But is it really? The lies the Bible speaks of refer to that which is 'not of the truth.' (To say what is not true is true, and what is true is not, that is a lie.) Arriving at Jesse’s house, Samuel has his sons brought before him. Seeing the firstborn, Eliab, Samuel is pleased and says, "Surely the LORD’s anointed stands here before the LORD." But God rebukes Samuel, saying he has looked at Eliab’s appearance and height. This isn't just about Samuel looking at his physical appearance; it means he committed the act of judging by what was 'good in his own eyes.' Then come the words, "The LORD does not look at the things people look at." This is another way of saying, "as God sees." The Lord looks at our heart, not our outward appearance. This means more than simply seeing our inner thoughts instead of our outer shell. It means God looks at our faith, not our achievements. The Lord's question is not, "What have you done?" but "Who are you looking at?" "For the LORD looks at the heart." — The reason this word is grace is because the love of God is in it. It is a love that contains His will and faithfulness to make us into people with such hearts. The fruit of that love is you and me; it is us. [Prayer] Lord, because You look at the heart and not the outward appearance, I can enjoy freedom. Because my salvation is accomplished by who God is, not by who I am, I sing praises. Let my steps today be ones that rely on that Lord. To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” [Meditation] Cornered by Samuel’s rebuke, Saul scrambles to make excuses. He sidesteps blame, pointing to "the people" and justifying his actions by saying it was to sacrifice "to the LORD your God." At this, Samuel utters the famous declaration we all know: "To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." Then, he delivers the final blow: "Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king." Struck by this thunderous declaration, Saul clings to Samuel, begging for forgiveness and confessing he sinned because he feared the people. Yet, as Samuel turns to leave, Saul grabs him so desperately that his robe tears. He then makes one last plea: "Please honor me before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me, so that I may worship the LORD your God." Saul's repentance and worship were not directed at God. They were still for the sake of his own prestige before the people. Saul was, in fact, a self-worshiper who used sacrifice as an excuse to honor himself. "Honor me!"—He did not know God's heart. Indeed, he did not know God. He did not understand that obedience, which is better than sacrifice, is to know God and become one with His heart. This incident awakens in us the identity of a saint. The people of God are those who know God and are united with His heart. They are the people of God, the holy assembly, the saints. When we are in Christ Jesus through the Word, we walk the steps of a saint—the steps of obedience according to His will. [Prayer] Lord, I see that to know God and to be in His will is obedience. This means my own will must be broken. Yet I know that joy is found in that very place, at that very time, for Your goodness is always better than what seems good to me. Let me walk that walk of faith today. Amen. ________________ [Daily Meditation] 1 Samuel 15:17-35  ]]> Thu, 16 Jul 2026 07:18:15 +0000 [한 절 묵상] 사무엘상 15:22 (개역개정) 사무엘이 이르되 여호와께서 번제와 다른 제사를 그의 목소리를 청종하는 것을 좋아하심 같이 좋아하시겠나이까 순종이 제사보다 낫고 듣는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 나으니 [묵상]  사무엘의 호통에 사울은 변명하기에 급급합니다. 자신은 쏙 빠진 채 '백성이' 한 일이라 핑계 댑니다. 그 이유마저 '하나님 여호와께' 드리려 했다고 둘러대지요. 그러자 사무엘은 우리 모두가 아는 그 유명한 선언을 외칩니다. "순종이 제사보다 낫고 듣는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 나으니.” 그리고 쐐기를 박습니다. "왕이 여호와의 말씀을 버렸으므로 여호와께서도 왕을 버려 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨나이다." 이 청천벽력같은 선언에 사울은 사무엘에게 매달립니다. 백성을 두려워하여 죄를 지었다고 고백하며 용서를 구합니다. 그럼에도 사무엘이 돌아서자, 그의 옷자락이 찢어지도록 붙잡고 마지막 한 가지를 간청합니다. "내 백성의 장로들 앞과 이스라엘 앞에서 나를 높이사 나와 함께 돌아가서 내가 당신의 하나님 여호와께 경배하게 하소서." 사울의 회개와 경배는 하나님을 향한 것이 아니었습니다. 여전히 백성들 앞에서 자기 위신을 세우기 위함이었지요. 사울은 제사를 핑계로 자신을 예배했던 자기 숭배자였던 것입니다. “나를 높이사.” - 그는 하나님의 마음을 몰랐습니다. 그는 하나님을 몰랐지요. 제사보다 나은 순종, 그것이 바로 하나님을 아는 것이며 그분의 마음과 하나 되는 것임을 몰랐던 것입니다. 이 사건은 성도의 정체성을 일깨웁니다. 하나님의 백성은 하나님을 아는 자이고, 그분의 마음과 합한 자이지요. 그들이 하나님의 백성, 거룩한 무리, 성도입니다. 말씀을 통해 그리스도 예수 안에 있을 때, 우리는 그 성도의 걸음을 걷습니다. 그분의 뜻에 따른 순종의 걸음을요.
