[One-Verse Meditation]

Judges 7:22 (NIV) “When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the LORD caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords. The army fled…”

[Meditation]

Yesterday, we meditated on the mystery of the gospel: that pure worship begins where all our boasting is broken. Gideon and his three hundred men now advance toward the Midianite camp not as soldiers, but as worshipers of God. What they held in their hands were not swords and spears, you see. They had only trumpets to proclaim victory and jars containing torches that would shine light through their brokenness.

They blow their trumpets and shout, “A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!” At that very moment, an astonishing thing happens. The three hundred do not fight; rather, the LORD Himself works, causing the enemy to strike one another. All Gideon’s army did was stand in that place, proclaiming God’s victory in faith. The battle belonged to the LORD, and the victory was the result of His zeal. That is why the text clearly states the subject of this victory is ‘the LORD.’

This is precisely the walk we take as believers today: to have holy courage in the face of a world that seems overwhelming; to look at a world that seems desirable and yet rely on Jesus who overcame it; for me to be broken, so that only His faithful promise remains within me—this is the life of a believer living as one of the three hundred.

We experience this daily. Though we fall because of our sinfulness and weakness, there is One who always lifts us up. Therefore, our steps are never heavy; on the contrary, we gain strength—just like them, back then, who joyfully blew their trumpets, smashed their jars, and held up their torches.

[Prayer]

Lord, left to myself, I sometimes desire the world that seems powerful, and at other times I fear it. But You cause me to cling not to the world, but to Your promise. In this way, You enable me to live today as one of Gideon’s three hundred. And so, this morning, I trust in You and step out boldly into the new day. Amen.
